It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you
without several issues of Meeting Comics to step to
Alright, let’s try this email newsletter thing again. With twitter bleeding users and instagram’s algorithm becoming ever more blatantly mercenary, maybe this email newsletter will be my saving grace. I’ll just make sure to tell everyone about it on twitter and instagr- OH NO
Since the last email newsletter, I’ve had written, drawn, and self-published multiple issues of Meeting Comics.
Hell Hand and Other Stories (Meeting Comics #23): This issue features five short stories that take place over the end of 2021, from Halloween week through New Year's!
Wrestling and Mania (Meeting Comics #24 & #25): A two-issue, 64-page story about training for and putting on a wrestling show! Or perhaps, a two-issue 64-page story about someone’s manic episode! Or perhaps, both!
Nexus of Exes (Meeting Comics #26): This one should be arriving this week for me to assemble and ship! Val has a weekend full of exes. She accompanies Don to his ex-wife's funeral, has a rendexvous with her ex-huband Derwood, and stumbles upon a convention of her exes, 28 of which are portrayed by real life Meeting Comics readers! There’s a regular cover and a pricier variant cover on which I will draw YOU with Val!
The issue I’m currently working on is called Gone Ghost (Meeting Comics #27). It’s the sequel to Where the Rent Went (Meeting Comics #21), and is once again sent in 1996. This time it’s Halloween, a couple months after the events of Where the Rent Went.
I’m going to be running a kickstarter for this issue, the way I did for Where the Rent Went. If you’d like to sign up to be notified when it started, here’s the kickstarter link!
Here’s some art from the pages I’ve finished:
Hmmmmmmm, while I’ve been working on the last few issues, I’ve occasionally drawn single comic strips that don’t fit into the story I’m working on, and I’m planning on collecting them in Meeting Comics #28 (issue title to be determined). Here’s one of those:
This was also a busy year for me as far as comics shows. As of the last email I sent out, I had attended NOICE in Norfolk. It was my first comics event after lockdown. Since then, I’ve set up at Asheville Zine Fest, Heroes Con, Stone Soup Zine Fest, SPX, CXC, Zine Machine, and RICE. At SPX I moderated a panel on Adhouse Books, and at CXC I interviewed Peter Gallagher, cartoonist of Heathcliff!
I’m done with comic shows for the year and plan for my next one to be NOICE in Norfolk in February again.
That’s a hefty email. Hopefully you feel caught up on my comics doings. Here are some links for you:
PATREON ($1/month: read every page as I finish it. $3/month: PDF issue subscription. $5/month: print issue subscription. $30: a drawing a month for you!)
WEBSTORE (Order comics, stickers, and the Meeting Comics collection from Adhouse.)
Thanks for reading! Will I keep up with this newsletter this time around? You’ve got about as good a guess as I do!
Take care!
Andrew
